Hurricanes to play Sooners in 2007 and 2009

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) The Miami Hurricanes and Oklahoma Sooners will renew their football rivalry in 2007 after a hiatus of nearly 20 years.<br> <br> The teams will play at Oklahoma on Sept. 8, 2007, and in Miami on Sept. 12, 2009, officials said Thursday.<br> <br> ``This will be a great series played by two of college football&#39;s legendary teams,&#39;&#39; Miami athletic director Paul Dee said.<br> <br> The teams played in 1985-87 seasons, with Miami winning all three games. The Hurricanes clinched the national championship by beating Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 1988, and the Sooners won the 1985 title despite the loss to Miami.<br> <br> ``We have great enthusiasm for games of this stature,&#39;&#39; Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione said. ``The previous matchups between our two schools have been legendary, and we have great respect for the Miami program.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> Hurricanes coach Larry Coker is an Oklahoma native.<br> <br> ``To play teams like Oklahoma is what the University of Miami is looking for,&#39;&#39; he said. ``It&#39;s great competition for us, as well as a great challenge.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> (Copyright 2006 by The Associated Press.
