Georgia Southern 72, Northern Illinois 70

DES MOINES, Iowa - Matt Fields scored 16 points and hit a jumper with 6 seconds left as Georgia Southern beat Northern Illinois 72-70 Friday in the first round of the Drake Classic.

Georgia Southern (5-2) led 37-33 at halftime and used three straight baskets from Fields to seal the Eagles' fourth straight win.

Dwayne Foreman and Louis Graham each scored 12 and Donte Gennie added 11 for Georgia Southern.

James Hughes led Northern Illinois (3-3) with 27 points. Cody Yelder scored 11 and Ben Rand added 10.
