SENECA, S.C. - Clemson starting cornerback Duane Coleman was charged with simple possession of marijuana following a traffic stop.
The 23-year-old Coleman, of Naples, Fla., was arrested Wednesday afternoon when a small amount of marijuana was found in his car, Seneca police said in a news release. He was held overnight at the Oconee County jail and was released Thursday on a personal recognizance bond.
Coleman was stopped for failing to use a turn signal and the arresting officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, police said.
Seneca is about 7 miles from Clemson's campus.
Clemson plays Kentucky in the Music City Bowl in Nashville, Tenn., on Dec. 29. Coleman emerged as one of the Tigers' defensive leaders after moving from tailback midway through his junior season, and was fourth on the team this year with 81 tackles.
``Any suspension or discipline in this matter will be determined after I have reviewed the facts and met with Duane,'' Clemson coach Tommy Bowden told The Greenville News.
Coleman was scheduled to graduate Thursday.
A message left with Clemson athletic spokesman Tim Bourret was not immediately returned.
