Alleged shoplifter escapes custody

GAINESVILLE - As New Year's weekend begins a Gainesville shoplifting suspect began his flight for freedom.

Gainesville Police picked up the alleged shoplifter at Target on Shallowford Road shortly before six o'clock Friday evening.

En route to the Hall County Jail he escaped police at or near Northeast Georgia Medical Center still wearing handcuffs.

The escapee has been identified as 31 year old Timothy Eric Gibson of Cumming. Gibson is described as a white male,165 pounds, five foot ten inches tall with very short brown hair and has a bleeding wound above his right eye. He was last seen wearing a red UGA pullover, beige pants and white tennis shoes and still in handcuffs.

Gibson is also wanted on felony shoplifting in Forsyth county.
