14-year-old boy falls at basketball game, later dies

<p>A 14-year-old boy fell and died during a basketball game at Bethune Middle School.</p><p>Joshua Thomas, a player for Shamrock Middle School, was knocked unconscious after hitting his head on the floor during the game Saturday and stopped breathing.</p><p>Several medical professionals were at the game and started CPR on the boy, DeKalb County schools spokesman Dale Davis said.</p><p>Thomas started breathing again but stopped once he reached the hospital, Davis said. Thomas was pronounced dead around 1:30 p.m. at DeKalb Medical Center at Hillandale.</p><p>"It was a routine basketball game and the child fell as a result of participating in it," Davis said.</p><p>Davis said he did not know whether the boy just collapsed or fell because of a foul during the game.</p><p>School officials were awaiting a report from the medical examiner's office to determine why Thomas died.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x1cd9a64)</p>
