Cobb County lawman killed in car collision

<p>A Cobb County sheriff's deputy driving to work was killed in a traffic wreck Sunday morning.</p><p>Deputy Loren Lilly, 41, was killed in the collision, which occurred at about 5:45 a.m., Marietta Police said.</p><p>Lilly was driving south on Powder Springs Road near Baltimore Place when his green Honda Civic collided with a white Ford Taurus and overturned several times, police said. Lilly's car overturned several times and he was killed at the scene, officer Casey Camp said.</p><p>Two men in the other car fled on foot before police arrived, but authorities arrested them later. The driver, Joel Camacho Perea, 27, of Marietta, was charged with vehicular homicide, hit and run, failure to maintain his lane and driving without a license, police said.</p><p>The passenger, Maurilio Herrea, 23, was charged with a misdemeanor count of falsely reporting a crime to police, saying the car they were in had been stolen, Camp said.</p><p>Lilly, a Marietta resident, had worked for the sheriff's department since 1989. He was assigned to the jail division.</p>
