Norcross makes statement in blowout win

<p>Between Norcross and North Gwinnett, there wasn't much certainty about which team would be hoisting the Region 7-AAAAA championship trophy.</p><p>Now, there is.</p><p>The Blue Devils controlled the ball, the clock and the game from the opening kickoff on their way to a convincing 31-10 win over the Bulldogs.</p><p>With the victory, Norcross (10-0) wraps up the first-ever perfect regular season in school history with its second-ever region title.</p><p>"It feels great," said junior Tyler Maloof, who returned an interception for a touchdown on the first play of the second half. "Its been a long time since anyone here has won region. And this just feels great. I can't explain it."</p><p>Bryce Dykes was spectacular throughout for Norcross, especially in the first half when he completed 15 of 20 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns.</p><p>Two of Dykes favorite targets, Darius Hanks and Brice Butler, made a huge impact in the win. Butler caught four passes for 98 yards a touchdown, while Hanks had two TDs _ one rushing and another through the air.</p><p>Evan Gilles seemed to be the only bright spot for the Bulldogs (9-1), rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. But his performance wasn't nearly enough to slow down the Blue Devils on this night.</p><p>"This means a lot," Hanks said. "We've never done this before. When we got here as freshmen, we said we wanted to win a region title and we wanted to win a state title."</p><p>HASH(0x1cd99ec)</p><p>WARE ENDS BORO'S STREAK: Derick Daniels ran for 56 yards and two touchdowns and Ware County's defense was solid, ending Statesboro's 32-game winning streak in a 20-0 victory.</p><p>The Gators (8-2) totaled 215 yards on offense, while the defense held the Blue Devils (9-1) to just 65 yards.</p><p>Ware County took a 10-0 lead after a fourth-and-goal touchdown plunge by Daniels with 5.6 seconds remaining before halftime. Victor Daniels led the team with 61 yards on 10 carries.</p><p>HASH(0x1cd9ba8)</p><p>MARIST EASILY HANDLES PIUS: Preston Lyons ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns to help Marist beat St. Pius 31-14.</p><p>The Golden Lions (9-2) cut the lead to 17-14 in the third quarter when Will Asip scored on a 14-yard touchdown run.</p><p>But the War Eagles responded with 14 unanswered points in the fourth, which included a 25-yard TD run by Lyons and a Garrison Wier 24-yard passing score.</p><p>Jonathan Tinsley had a game-high 107 yards on five carries for St. Pius, which included an 80-yard touchdown run on the Golden Lions' first play from scrimmage.</p><p>HASH(0x1cdc268)</p><p>ECI GOES PERFECT IN REGULAR SEASON: Washaun Ealey ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns and Marvin Hughes added 164 yards rushing with two TDs to lead Emanuel County Institute to a 35-0 win over Savannah Country Day.</p><p>ECI (10-0) jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the second quarter on Hughes' 20-yard rushing score, a 1-yard touchdown run by Dextere Moody and Ealy's 21-yard TD from the ground.</p><p>Hughes also had a 70-yard touchdown run, while Ealy scored from 3-yards away in the third.</p><p>HASH(0x1cdc424)</p><p>PEACH'S OFFENSE SCORE AT WILL: Brian Ellis threw for 416 yards and three touchdowns, while Mario Howard scored on four TDs and rushed for 133 yards to lead Peach County to a 63-29 win over Henry County.</p><p>Udom Umoh was the leading receiver for Peach (9-1) with five catches for 128 yards and a touchdown.</p><p>Drew Little passed for 310 yards and two touchdowns for Henry County. Chris Jackson caught 13 passes for 180 yards and a TD in the loss.</p><p>HASH(0x1cddf34)</p><p>BROOKWOOD GETS PASS PARKVIEW: Demetre Ledlum ran for 224 yards on 27 carries and three touchdowns to lead Brookwood to a 28-14 win over Parkview.</p><p>The game was tied at 14 all with eight minutes remaining until Ledlum scored on a 3-yard run, then a 1-yard run. Ledlum also had an 18-yard TD, which put Brookwood (8-2) up 14-7 in the third.</p>
