GAINESVILLE - A year ago, it was all over the news: the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce's long-range planning initiative dubbed Vision 2030. You're not hearing much about it these days, but chamber officials say that doesn't mean the study has been put on a shelf and forgotten.
Denis Deal, Vision 2030 Executive Director, recently updated the chamber board of directors of the work of Vision 2030.
"We are off and running, working very hard on implementing some of the ideas (developed a year ago)," Deal said. Those ideas came out of a series of cummunitywide meetings and followup sessions which continued into the early part of this year.
Deal says committee has been formed to look into a new and improved regional Welcome Center for Gainesville-Hall County.
"There is a committee that is underway, working on a welcome center location, establishing that (and) funding."
Deal said transportation issues raised during the Vision 2030 process are also already being addressed.
In addition, she says, work is underway on some "fun" activities suggested as part of the Vision 2030 process.
"An effort is underway on a musical festival that would be in coordination with an existing event (and) a Latin festival that may take place in the spring."
