Former WSB-TV anchor facing new drug charges

By by The Associated Press
CUMMING - Former WSB-TV news anchor Warren Savage has been arrested on new drug charges - this time in Forsyth County.

Authorities arrested Savage about 5:00 Wednesday morning. Savage worked at WSB for ten years before abruptly leaving the station in September 2005.

Warren, 42, already was facing a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge from August in Gwinnett County.

Forsyth County deputies arrested Savage on charges of cocaine possession and possession with the intent to distribute concaine, both felonies.

Sheriff's department spokeswoman -- Karleen Chalker -- says deputies arrested Savage outside a business in the southern part of Forsyth County as ``part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.''

Sheriff Ted Paxton would not say how much cocaine was involved or if others were arrested.

Savage is being held in the Forsyth County jail without bail at least until an initial hearing before a magistrate Friday.

Gwinnett County Police spokesman Corporal Darren Moloney says officers arrested Savage on August 17 after responding to the Best Western Peachtree Corners on a domestic disturbance call. Savage was charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

The maximum sentence on each of the misdemeanor charges in Gwinnett is 12 months in jail. Chalker says the potential penalty for the charges filed yesterday is 30 years in prison.
