BUFORD - Gwinnett County Police have a Buford man in custody after a two hour SWAT team stand-off Friday afternoon.
Spokesman Darren Moloney said Tony Allen Smith, 25. fled a traffic stop on foot and held up in a carport on on Stonehedge Road.
"Started telling everyone he had a gun and was preparing to use it," Moloney said. "SWAT was activated."
He says Smith faces several felony charges.
The driver of the car, Angela Tittle, 38, Baldwin was also arrested. Both face additional drug charges.
Gwinnett Police and the Drug Task Force also arrested 11 people Friday, including two described as ringleaders in a meth distribution ring. The two, Preston L.J. Smith, 21, and Trevor R.B. Smith, 23, are said to have "significant histories" in dealing illegal narcotics in Gwinnett County. Police say both have ties to Tony Allen Smith.
Those arrested are identified as : Jennifer Brooke Bagwell, 24; Shawnda Michelle Williams, 36; Jessica Mae Pinkard, 30; Jonathon Douglas Marshall, 28; Paul Andrew Watson, 28; Ronald Trent Bagwell,53; William Randall Maney, 22; Terry Presley Lipe, 38; and Matthew Shane Brantley, 22. Police say their places of residence are unkown.
Four houses in Buford and one in Lilburn were searched. At 5026 Pass Court in Buford police seized about $23,000 in cash and 46 grams of meth with a street value of $4,600. Also seized were 5 vehicles, 8 pistols, 7 long guns and recovered stolen property includes four motorcycles and a front-end loader/tractor valued at $50,000.
According to police spokesman Officer Darren Moloney, as some of those arrested were being taken away, neighbors came out to cheer the police officers on. The investigation is described as "active" and additional arrests and charges are expected.
