FORT VALLEY - Brian Knighton ran for 124 yards on 21 carries with three touchdowns to lead Fort Valley State to a 31-23 victory over Lane Saturday night.<br>

The Dragons (0-3, 0-2 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) took a 23-17 lead in the third quarter when Virgil Union caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Sherard Ellis.<br>

But Knighton's 9-yard TD run at the end of the third gave the Rams (2-1, 2-0) a 24-23 lead. Willie Copeland, who completed 15-of-25 passes for 213 yards and one interception, then threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Hughes in the fourth to put the game away.<br>

Hughes had five catches for 87 yards for Fort Valley.<br>

Lane's Sherard Ellis went 27-of-39 for 326 passing yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Ellis also had 12 carries for 83 yards. Jacoby Jones had eight receptions for 83 yards.
