GAINESVILLE - A Thursday night residential fire at 213 Shallowford Drive has displaced two families who were renting the one-thousand-square-foot home.
Hall County Fire Marshall Scott Cagle says the blaze has made the house unlivable, adding , "We did have to call Red Cross to put these two families up for the night."
The fire was called in shortly before 8 p.m. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found flames had engulfed about 60-percent of the one-thousand-square-foot structure.
"The owner of the home, Frank Castleberry, values the house at $75,000," says Cagle, "and we believe there was about $35,000 worth of damage to the structure."
No one was injured in the fire.
"They were out in the front yard at the time, " says the fire marshall. "Georgia Power was on the scene hooking the power back up to this residence. As soon as the meter was attached to the home, some of the residents noticed smoke coming from the bedroom."
The fire is described as electrical, but Cagle says the investigation into what caused the blaze is continuing.
