NEW YORK (AP) U-S-A Baseball has picked the man who will help select the players and coaching staffs and organize the exhibition games for the team it will send to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The general manager's post goes to Bob Watson, who's the chief disciplinarian for Major League Baseball. He's also baseball's vice president of rules and on-field operations.
Watson co-chaired U-S-A Baseball's steering committee in 1999 and 2000, and oversaw selection of the 2003 team that did not qualify for the Athens Games.
Beijing will mark baseball's last appearance in the Olympics. It's being dropped.
