State agency head to visit GC; fall semester begins

OAKWOOD - The head of the state department concerned with early child care and learning plans a visit to Gainesville College next week - and fall semester began at GC Wednesday.

The Commissioner of "Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning" will be at GC next Friday to visit the school's Child Care Resource and Referral Agency.

Marsha Moore's visit is to see first hand how the agency operates on a day-to-day basis.

It is one of 14 regional agencies in the state whose core services include: referrals, training for providers and parents, lending library/resource room, technical assistance, information dissemination, increasing the supply of child care, and advocacy.

It serves Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union and White Counties; is under the direction of Pat Nodine, Executive Director; and has 12 employees.

FALL SEMESTER

Fall semester classes began at GC Wednesday with a three percent increase in enrollment expected. Classes resumed at both the main campus in Oakwood and the Oconee campus.
