Seminoles quarterbacks rebound after bad scrimmage showing

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Florida State&#39;s pair of redshirt freshman quarterbacks rebounded with a strong practice Thursday morning, a day after both Xavier Lee and Drew Weatherford struggled in the team&#39;s first fall scrimmage.<br> <br> Weatherford took his turn with the first team Thursday after finishing 12-for-20 passing for 90 yards in a scrimmage dominated by the defense Wednesday night. However, Weatherford easily outshined Lee, who finished just 2-for-17 for negative yardage.<br> <br> The state&#39;s ``Mr. Football&#39;&#39; as the best high school player in 2003 and the more physically gifted of the two quarterbacks, Lee had been considered the front runner in the minds of most FSU fans and followers heading into fall practice.<br> <br> ``(The quarterback decision) will be on performance not potential,&#39;&#39; coach Bobby Bowden said. ``We&#39;ll go on who&#39;s best during the rest of practice.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> Bowden won&#39;t say when a starter will be named, but said coaches would likely decide some time during the week leading up to the Sept. 5 opener against Miami.<br> <br> ``It&#39;ll be up to the last week before the game before we will do it,&#39;&#39; Bowden said. ``As soon as we&#39;re sure, we&#39;ll make the move so the kids will get used to him. I&#39;ll have final say so. We&#39;ll do it when we are positive, though.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> The Seminoles have eight days of practice remaining and will hold the fall&#39;s second scrimmage on Saturday.
