Man shot by police after they find body in his trunk

<p>A man who police say had a history of domestic violence was found Sunday at his wife's car with her dead body in the trunk. After police discovered the body, the husband tried to run over an officer and was shot.</p><p>The shooting happened Sunday morning, when a Dublin police officer was looking for the car of Kimberly Smith, who'd just been reported missing.</p><p>Sgt. J.R. Smith, no relation to the woman, found her car in a mobile home park. The woman's estranged husband, 31-year-old Bernard Smith, was standing at the car and appeared to be cleaning it out. The policeman searched the car and found the woman's body in the trunk, but then Bernard Smith jumped in another car and tried to run over the sergeant before crashing into a tree.</p><p>The officer shot him once in the arm. Bernard Smith was treated for injuries and then held in jail on kidnapping charges.</p><p>An autopsy was planned on Kimberly Smith.
