Stone Mountain park attendant killed in shooting

<p>A Stone Mountain park attendant who was a retired police officer was killed in a shooting early Saturday morning at the park.</p><p>Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said robbery was the apparent motive in the shooting of Anita Redmon, 63, a 30-year veteran of the Doraville police department who began working for the park in April.</p><p>"We've never had anything like this happen in the history of the park," said Stone Mountain park spokeswoman Christine Parker.</p><p>Bankhead said the GBI is assisting Stone Mountain park police in the investigation.</p><p>Bankhead says the shooting occurred at shortly after midnight at the west gate entrance.</p><p>"We've been canvassing the neighborhood to see if anyone saw anything unusual between 12:30 and 1:30 this morning," Bankhead said.</p><p>Parker said Redmon's job as an attendant was to collect $8 park fees for vehicles which do not have parking stickers for the park.</p><p>"We're saddened by the loss," Parker said. "She was very much liked by her co-workers and will be greatly missed."</p><p>Parker said Redmon's brother, Nick Bird, is a policeman at Stone Mountain park.</p><p>A $20,000 reward is being offered by Stone Mountain Park for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter or shooters.</p>
