ATLANTA - Former Georgia Tech standouts Jason Varitek and Mark Teixeira were named American League starters today for the July 12 All-Star Game to be played in Detroit.<br>

Varitek, of the Boston Red Sox, will be the A-L starting catcher. Teixeira, of Texas, will be the starting first baseman.<br>

Former Atlanta Braves standout Gary Sheffield is a reserve in the A-L outfield. Sheffield now plays for the New York Yankees.
