Mother nature threatens fireworks displays

GAINESVILLE - Mother Nature put on a fireworks show of her own about dusk Monday night, threatening fireworks displays in the Gainesville area, but the show at the American Legion went off as planned.

Darks clouds, punctuated by lightning, appeared just as dark was settling in and crowds were getting ready for the annual displays.

The show at the legion attracted thousands to the shores of Lake Lanier not only at the legion but elsewhere around the lake. As usual, scores of boats pulled into the cove at the legion to view the fireworks from another angle.

Meanwhile, parts of Hall County were pounded by torrential rains at the same time.
