Former USC Halfback Dies at 82

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Art Battle, a three-year letterman for Southern California in the late 1940s, has died of cancer. He was 82.<br>

Battle died last Saturday in Corona, Calif., the school said. He played right halfback for the Trojans and was later president of the Trojan Football Alumni Club.<br>

Battle was the uncle of 1968 USC All-American defensive back Mike Battle.<br>
<br>
Services will be held Saturday at McAulay and Wallace Mortuary in Fullerton. Battle is survived by his wife, Neida; daughters Lynda Slater and Cary Citrano, and four grandsons.<br>
