SAN DIEGO (AP) The San Diego Padres are making a trade they hope will help keep them atop the National League West. They're sending a pair of minor league pitchers, right-handers Justin Germano and Travis Chick, to the Cincinnati Reds for third baseman Joe Randa.
They've also sent Sean Burroughs to Triple-A, hoping he'll improve his stroke.
The Padres also continue to discuss a trade that would send first baseman Phil Nevin to Baltimore for pitcher Sidney Ponson, but they would have to ask Nevin to waive a clause in his contract. Baltimore is one of eight teams Nevin can block a trade to. Nevin wants to stay in the west.
