DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Two players on back-to-back national championship basketball teams at Duke agreed Thursday to donate $2 million to the school's athletics program.
Christian Laettner and Brian Davis, co-captains for the 1992 NCAA title winners and key members of the 1991 championship squad, will pay $750,000 to endow a basketball scholarship. The remaining $1.25 million will help pay for a new Duke basketball practice and training center.
``They have invested in Duke and the Durham community in a number of ways,'' Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. ``We were fortunate to have their talents on the court, and we are just as fortunate to have them still be a part of our program.''
Laettner and Davis are partners in Blue Devil Ventures, which is developing a mixed-use project in downtown Durham.
Laettner was the 1992 National Player of the Year and a member of the first Olympic ``Dream Team'' the following summer. He has played in the National Basketball Association for 14 seasons and now is a member of the Miami Heat.
Davis has homes in his native Washington, D.C., area and in Durham.
