COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) South Carolina running back Cory Boyd has been suspended for the 2005 season, the school announced Friday.
Boyd violated athletic department policy but is in good academic standing, athletics director Eric Hyman said in a release.
Boyd will be allowed to practice with the team but will not dress for games or travel with the team during the suspension.
``Cory Boyd will remain with the team and will practice with the team,'' said coach Steve Spurrier. ``He will not report until school starts on Aug. 18.''
The suspension was first announced last month.
This is the second-straight summer Boyd isn't part of the team. Last time, then-coach Lou Holtz kept seven players, including Boyd, and dismissed players Moe Thompson and Demetris Summers from Gamecock workouts. All the players got to return after passing a conditioning test.
Boyd would have been the Gamecocks' leading returning rusher with 309 yards last season and receiver with 347 yards.
Fall camp begins for the Gamecocks on Monday, and the first practice is scheduled for 8 p.m. Tuesday.
