BEIJING (AP) Olympic officials say preparations for the 2008 Games in Beijing are on schedule.
The vice president of the I-O-C's coordination committee for the games, Kevin Gosper, toured construction sites for the main stadium and swimming center today, then said he's completely confident venues will be ready.
China began slowing construction last year following I-O-C concerns that facilities would be finished too early. That would have added to maintenance costs.
China's building five new stadiums for the game, at a cost a bit short of two (b) billion dollars. Another 24 (b) billion is in the planning for new subway lines, roads and other facilities by 2008.
