FSU DT Dickson ineligible for 2005 season

By
TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA - Florida State defensive tackle Clifton Dickson is academically ineligible for the 2005 season, the school said, robbing the Seminoles of a projected starter on the interior line.

Dickson left FSU at the end of the spring and enrolled at Tallahassee Community College, where he expects to graduate in December, said Mark Meleney, FSU's director of academic support. He must earn his associates degree before again enrolling at FSU in January.

Last season, Dickson started five games while splitting time with the injured Broderick Bunkley. He finished with 17 tackles, six for loss, and 2.5 sacks as a sophomore.

``I felt like Clifton Dickson was our most improved defensive player last year,'' FSU coach Bobby Bowden said before spring practice.

The best bets to replace Dickson are Bunkley still recovering from an ankle injury Andre Fluellen and freshman Aaron Jones.

The Seminoles are trying to replace starting defensive tackle Travis Johnson and key backup Charles Howard on the defensive front.
