Holder returns to Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) Cal State Northridge women&#39;s basketball coach Tammy Holder is leaving to become an assistant coach at South Carolina.<br> <br> She replaces Linda Hill-MacDonald, who was named head coach at the University at Buffalo last month.<br> <br> Holder, who was named Big West Coach of the Year last season, has been an assistant for the Gamecocks twice before. She worked under Nancy Wilson from 1984 to 1988, as South Carolina won a pair of Metro Conference championships. She also spent a year as an assistant for coach Susan Walvius in the 1999-2000 season.<br> <br> ``South Carolina is like a second home to me, and I am very excited to come back,&#39;&#39; Holder said. ``I look forward to working with Susan Walvius again and the challenge of coaching in the SEC.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> Holder went 3-24 her first year at Cal State Northridge, but the Matadors improved to 18-11 last season.<br> <br> ``We&#39;re very excited to have Tammy back at South Carolina,&#39;&#39; Walvius said. ``She brings more than 20 years of coaching experience with her and she has enjoyed success every place she has been.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> South Carolina finished 8-21 this past season, going just 2-12 in the Southeastern Conference.<br> <br> (Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press.
