Tennessee's Fulmer lifts Smith's suspension after guilty plea

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee receiver Bret Smith is back on the team, ending the suspension that began after he was involved in a fight on campus with another student in April.<br> <br> Smith and former Tennessee quarterback Brent Schaeffer were charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from an incident in a campus dorm.<br> <br> They pleaded guilty on Thursday to a lesser misdemeanor, offensive touching, in a deal with prosecutors in which they were sentenced to six months of judicial diversion and ordered to pay restitution to the victim.<br> <br> ``I remain very disappointed we have had any of these kinds of issues at all but am pleased with the results in court for Bret. He will return to our active roster and the suspension is lifted, however he will continue to be disciplined internally for his immature actions and poor representation of our team,&#39;&#39; coach Phillip Fulmer said in a statement released late Thursday.<br> <br> Schaeffer left Tennessee shortly after his arrest and plans to transfer to another school.<br> <br> Smith, of Warren, Ark., led all receivers last year as a sophomore with five touchdown catches.<br> <br> (Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press.
