WASHINGTON - The House Committee on Government Reform is shifting its focus on girls as it continues to investigate steroid use.
The comittee will hold its fourth hearing on steroids in response to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that anabolic steroid use by young girls is rising. The report indicates that girls are taking steroids to control weight and lose body fat as well as to enhance athletic ability.
Former world champion sprinter Kelli White is scheduled to appear at the hearing. White was stripped of her gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug at the 2003 World Championships in Paris. She has said she also used banned blood-doping, steroids and testosterone to enhance her performance, without getting caught in drug tests.
