Running for Jenny four years in a row

OAKWOOD - At Gainesville College Saturday morning round 200 runners gathered for what is now a Father's Day weekend tradition.

The 4th Annual Jenny Melton Father's Day 5K Walk/Run raised an estimated $30,000 for scholarships in memory of the West Hall High School honor student killed in a car accident three years ago.

Butch Melton said the Jenny Melton Foundation has awarded 39 $2,500 college scholarships to West Hall and Flowery Branch high students.

Kelly Brady received one of the first Melton scholarships.

"I did get the scholarship my freshman year which helped me out a lot and I know they've helped a lot of other students too," she said.

"My daughter Jenny didn't get a chance to go to college and if she could do anything in spirit it would be to help other kids go to school," Melton said.
