Record number of LCKC members qualify for world championship teams

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - Several members of the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club (LCKC) qualified this weekend for the world championship teams.

This year's is the best showing on world championship teams by the LCKC.

Morgan House, Josh Brandsma, Kalen Lee, Emily Mickle, Jen Burke, Victoria Llonch, Robert Finlayson and Richard Stewart won spots on the USACK Junior A team. Finlayson and Stewart are the first Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club athletes who compete in canoe events to qualify for a Junior World Team. This will be the second trip to a Junior World Championships for House, Lee and Mickle who attended the 2003 Junior World Championships in Komatsu, Japan.

USACK also selected a Junior B team which will compete at the Pan American Championships in Lac Beauport, Quebec. Brady Bragg, David Cohen, Emily Vinson, Mary Taylor, Meg Sutton, Candace Bennison and Jessica Carrillo from Lanier were selected.

The Senior World Championships selection is not complete. Kalen Lee qualifed for both the Junior and Senior World Championships teams with her wins in the Senior Women's K4 and Junior Women K1 events. Kalen is the first Lanier athlete to qualify for both a Junior and Senior World Championships team in the same year. David Aldrich qualified through winning the Men's C2 events with Jordan Malloch. Final selection for the Senior World Championships team should occur by the conclusion of the Pan American Championships as specific events are filled by Nathan Luce Head Coach of USACK.
