Former coach pleads guilty to sexual assault

<p>A former high school basketball coach accused of sexually assaulting a student pleaded guilty on Friday in Carroll County Superior Court.</p><p>James Michael Wright, 47, of Bowdon, was given three years of probation in a negotiated plea to one count of sexual assault.</p><p>He also was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine and surrender his teaching certificate.</p><p>Senior Assistant District Attorney Anne Allen said Wright cannot coach or be in position of authority for girls younger than 18.</p><p>The former coach was accused of sexually assaulting a Bowdon High School student between April 2003 and June 2004.</p><p>Wright resigned as coach in 2003 after 24 years of coaching both boys and girls basketball.
