Georgia Tech 8, North Carolina 1, 2nd game

<p>Ryan Turner tossed seven shutout innings and Georgia Tech (38-16, 22-8 ACC) hit three home runs for an 8-1 win over No. 15 North Carolina (40-15-1, 17-10-1) in the final game of the regular season Saturday.</p><p>The Tar Heels won the first two games of the weekend to claim their first series victory over the Yellow Jackets since 2001.</p><p>Earlier Saturday, Matt Spencer stole home in the eighth inning to lead the Tar Heels past the Yellow Jackets 7-6. The game was suspended Friday night due to rain with the Yellow Jackets leading the Tar Heels 3-1 in the third inning.</p><p>With the loss Saturday night, Carolina finishes fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings and will open against No. 4 seed Florida State on Wednesday in the annual league tournament at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Georgia Tech finished first outright with its 22-8 record.</p><p>Turner allowed four hits over the seven innings, but walked five. He struck out five and held the Tar Heels to just one hit over the first five innings.</p><p>Carolina's Daniel Bard went seven innings and tied a career high by allowing six earned runs on seven hits and three walks. He fanned seven for his most strikeouts since March 26 and retired seven of the final eight batters he faced.</p>
