Nurses from Hall, Banks recognized for hurricane work

By by Ken Stanford
ATLANTA - A public health nurse from Hall County and one from Banks are among a dozen in Georgia recently cited for their work in Hurricane-ravaged Florida last year.

Janice Hill of Banks County and Jennifer Parker of Hall County each received an award for heroism from the Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) for their volunteer work following Hurricane Frances, "despite the risk of danger from other impending hurricanes."

The presentation noted that they were ready for the trip to Florida within 24 hours after they received a request from DHR's Emergency Operations Center.

While in Florida, they supported local public health staff and worked in emergency shelters.
