Farmers Market to try Saturday hours

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The 32nd edition of the Hall County Farmers Market opens Friday and for the first time ever it will be open on Saturday on a trial basis.

County extension director Billy Skaggs says the market will be open, as usual, on Tuesdays and Fridays, but will also be open the first Saturday in June, July and August, although not as early as the other days.

Skaggs says the decision to experiment with Saturday hours is in response to requests that the market be open on weekends. He says the market will open later on Saturday, however, at 8 a.m. instead of 6 a.m., which is the opening time for Tuesdays and Fridays. The vendors, who come from Hall and surrounding counties, stay until they sell out which is usually by noon.

The market is located at the corner of East Crescent Drive and Jewell Parkway just off I-985 at Exit 24 near Rabbittown.
