Gilchrist signs with agent, will enter NBA draft

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) Junior guard John Gilchrist has hired an agent and will enter the NBA draft, Maryland coach Gary Williams said Friday.<br> <br> ``He&#39;s going to the pros,&#39;&#39; Williams told The (Baltimore) Sun. ``I wish him a lot of luck.&#39;&#39;<br> <br> Gilchrist has been working out to prepare for upcoming tryouts, Williams said.<br> <br> By signing with an agent, Gilchrist will not have the option of returning to Maryland for his senior season. Underclassmen must submit their names to the NBA by midnight Saturday to be eligible for the June 28 draft.<br> <br> As a sophomore in 2004, Gilchrist led the Terrapins to the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament championship and won the tournament&#39;s MVP award.<br> <br> His 2004-05 season was marred by inconsistency and contentious relationships with Williams and his teammates, and Maryland&#39;s run of consecutive NCAA tournament appearances ended at 11.<br> <br> He averaged 13.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and a team-high 5.5 assists as a junior.<br> <br> Gilchrist did not play in Maryland&#39;s final four games, thanks mostly to wrist and ankle injuries, as the Terrapins reached the NIT semifinals.<br> <br> Information from: The Sun, http://www.baltsun.com<br> <br> (Copyright 2005 by The Associated Press.
