Ruse, other fallen cops remembered in Washington

By by Ken Stanford
WASHINGTON - Pendergrass policeman Chris Ruse is among 153 fallen law enforcement officers honored this weekend in Washington at observances that include a candlelight vigil.

Ruse and the others who died in the line of duty last year are being remembered at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

Ruse was killed in late December in a shootout at the end of a chase.

Thousands of officers, their families and friends gathered at the memorial Friday night for a candlelight vigil to remember and pay respects to the fallen officers.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, whose brother is a 26-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, delivered the keynote speech. Gonzales says the more than 17,000 names appearing on the walls of the memorial constitute ``a roll call of those who've made the ultimate sacrifice.''

At the end of the ceremony, the names of officers added to the memorial's walls were read aloud.
