First round completed Sunday morning in BellSouth Classic

<p>Billy Mayfair and Jason Allred completed their rounds Sunday to finish with 4-under 68s and a one-stroke lead after the weather-delayed opening round of the BellSouth Classic.</p><p>Mayfair, one of 63 players who did not finish Saturday, had completed 13 holes before darkness ended play. Allred also finished up Sunday, playing eight holes _ including a birdie on No. 18 to tie Mayfair.</p><p>The first round concluded at 10:36 a.m., and then the second round began.</p><p>The tournament has been shortened to 54 holes and will be completed Monday after stormy conditions wiped out the first two days of play. Saturday's play at the TPC at Sugarloaf course was suspended for 99 minutes when a storm that included rain, hail and snow passed through in mid-morning.</p><p>One stroke back at 69 were two-time winner Scott McCarron, J.L. Lewis, Ted Purdy, Brett Quigley, Andrew Magee, Kevin Stadler and Hideto Tanihara. Quigley, Magee, Stadler and Tanihara finished their rounds Sunday morning.</p><p>At 2-under 70 were Rich Beem, Bo Van Pelt, John Huston, Steve Stricker, D.J. Brigman, Ryuji Imada and David Hearn. Beem and Van Pelt finished Saturday. The others completed play Sunday morning.</p><p>Phil Mickelson, who is tuning up here before heading to Augusta to defend his Masters title, completed three holes of the first round Sunday for a 2-over 74.</p><p>Retief Goosen, the 2002 winner here, was at 72 and defending champion Zach Johnson at 3-over 75.</p><p>Rain has affected eight of the 14 tournaments on tour so far this year. Last week, The Players Championship also finished on a Monday in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.</p><p>Vijay Singh, Tiger Woods and Ernie Els, the top three players in the world, skipped the BellSouth to focus on the Masters.</p>
