DOHA,Quatar (AP) There could be a major rule change in world track and field competition. The International Association of Athletics Federations, the governing body of world track and field competition, has been offered a proposal by the I-A-A-F Council that calls for the termination of false starts.
Under current rules, the first false start is charged against the field with the second false start causing the disqualification of the sprinter that jumps the gun.
If adopted, the new plan would call for the immediate disqualification of a sprinter that jumps the gun.
