GAINESVILLE - The annual May-September outdoor burn ban begins Sunday in Hall and 45 other Georgia counties.
Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle says recreational campfires and backyard grilling are still exempt. Hall is one of 13 north georgia counties and 32 statewide mandated to have a summer burn ban.
"We're in that Atlanta area that is deemed to have high ozone emmissions during the summer that is harmful so this is going to be a yearly thing from now on," Cagle said Thursday.
The ban covers the 13 counties that comprise the Atlanta Ozone Non-Attainment Area and 32 counties that surround the Ozone Non-Attainment Area.
The counties subject to the ban include: Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Butts, Carroll, Chattooga, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gordon, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Lumpkin, Madison, Meriwether, Monroe, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Paulding, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Putnam, Rockdale, Spalding, Troup, Upson and Walton.
