National Bank celebrates 100 years

<p>The National Bank of South Carolina celebrated its 100th year on Wednesday.</p><p>The bank, one of the largest and oldest South Carolina-based banks in the state, held celebrated the anniversary with a ceremony in Sumter.</p><p>NBSC, which now has 44 locations statewide, was founded in Sumter in 1905 as the Farmers Bank and Trust Company by C.G. Rowland.</p><p>In 1914, the bank received its national charter and the name changed to The National Bank of South Carolina. Now the company is owned by Columbus, Ga.-based Synovus, a holding company, and is the second largest bank within the Synovus network.</p><p>"I doubt C.G. Rowland could have envisioned what NBSC has become today," said Chief Executive Officer and President Chuck Garnett. "But his vision has allowed this company not only to survive but to grow and prosper."</p>
