Man, two children dead in domestic violence

<p>A man and two young children died, and at least three other children were hospitalized after a violent domestic dispute Wednesday in a lower-income neighborhood of south Columbus, police said.</p><p>Witnesses told police that a woman followed by a 5-year-old child with blood on her ran screaming from a home on Benning Road, then collapsed.</p><p>Police broke down the door and found a man and a child dead inside, police Maj. Russell Traino said.</p><p>Three children, ages 1-7, were being treated at The Medical Center.</p><p>Four children were transported to the hospital and one died there, spokeswoman Marion Scott said. She said of the three surviving children, two were in critical condition and one was unsatisfactory Wednesday night.</p><p>Neither Scott nor detective Lt. Vince Pasco could confirm reports that the victims had been stabbed. Muscogee County Coroner James Dunnavant could not be reached Wednesday night to comment.</p><p>Pasco said police received a report of domestic disturbance shortly after 2 p.m. and found five injured children and an adult in the house. The man and a child died at the scene and one child died at the hospital.</p><p>"The other three were taken to surgery and at this time it appears they are going to live," Pasco said about six hours later.</p><p>Pasco said police were not releasing identities pending further investigation.</p><p>"We're still piecing it together," he said.</p><p>Wednesday night, the white cinderblock house in south Columbus was quiet.</p><p>Two doors away, the words "God is Love" were featured on the billboard of the South Columbus United Methodist Church.</p><p>Nathaniel Carter, a security guard in the church parking lot, said that earlier in the day, the house was surrounded by crime scene tape and hordes of news media and police.</p>
