Faulty blanket blamed for Lula house fire

By By Scott Kimbler
GAINESVILLE - A Tuesday night fire caused $10,000 damage to a bedroom in a house at 5289 Old Cornelia Highway near Lula - but fire investigators say quick action by a woman who lives there prevented it from possibly being a lot worse.

Hall County Fire Marshall Scott Cagle says the cause of the fire was likely a faulty electric blanket.

"She had some singed hair and that was about it as far as injuries go," Cagle said. "She was very, very lucky she escaped this fire without injury since the fire started in the bed itself."

He says the woman's hair was singed slightly but she was otherwise unharmed. Cagle says she did the right thing by closing the bedroom door and cutting off oxygen to the fire.
