Elan planning Gainesville expansion

GAINESVILLE - In a reversal of the recent spate of plant closings and layoffs in the Gainesville area, one plant is planning an expansion.

Elan Holdings, Inc. is on the agenda for the Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board meeting March 8 to request a zoning amendment for its 49-acre site on Gould Drive for the "expansion of existing facilities."

According to the board's agenda, the expansion would involve 245,390 square feet.

The plant is in a wooded area at Gould Drive and McEver Road Extension adjacent to Water's Edge Subdivision and the old site of Free Chapel Worship Center.
