SAVANNAH - An official says the Armstrong Atlantic State women's basketball team will have to forfeit all 17 wins this season and will be barred from participating in next week's Peach Belt Conference Tournament for using an ineligible player.
Peach Belt Conference Commissioner Marvin Vanover said yesterday that junior forward Audosha Kelley should have been ineligible to play for the Pirates when she transferred from Middle Tennessee States.

He say the documentation Armstrong provided was NOT complete and did NOT meet transfer requirements.

Vanover says Kelley would still have been ineligible even if all the information had been provided.

He says there is NO evident that the student lied. He says the mistakes were made by Armstong personnel -- quote -- ``in not documenting properly and not knowing the rules as far as transfers.'' He declined to provide details.

As a result of the forfeitures, Armstrong Atlantic's record will change from seven-seven in the Peach Belt Conference and 17-11 overall to O-14 and O-28.
Kelley was the Peach Belt Conference's leading scorer with 18-point-two points a game. She did NOT play in thee Pirates' last two games, losses to Georgia College and State University and U-S-C Upstate.
Amstrong Atlantic Coach Roger Hodge says the players are ``disappointed obviously'' after learning of the punishment. In his words, ``We all are. I hate to see them hurt.''
The school plans to appeal the decision to bar it from playing in the tournament.
