GAINESVILLE - Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Dorothy Dickinson, a former longtime director of the Hall County Library System.

Dickinson, 88, died at a Conyers nursing home following an extended illness.

She retired in the mid 1980s when the position was known as Librarian and the Hall County Library was a part of the Chestatee Library System, but she remained a part of the library system even in retirement.
"Up until just several months ago Ms. D volunteered at our East Hall Library, working to help fill our special needs clients requests," recalled current director Adrian Mixson. "We will miss her. She opened the downtown library on Main (the current location) and for years it was one of the best things going in Gainesville."

"Even after she retired," Mixson said, "she gave some of her time back to the
community, every week providing service to those who most benefit from her
years of experience: selecting reading for the homebound. This town lost a little something in her passing. And for those new to Gainesville, I know they saw her pristine 1966 Volkswagon Beetle tooling about town. It looked as new as the day she bought it."
