DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Chris Barclay ran for 68 of his 204 yards on his first carry, broke the Wake Forest career rushing record and helped the Demon Deacons beat Duke 44-6 Saturday for their first winning streak of the season.<br>

In the third quarter, Barclay took a handoff and gained 19 yards to move in front of James McDougald, who totaled 3,811 yards on the ground from 1976-79. Barclay completed that drive with a 9-yard touchdown and later ran 71 yards for another to make him the top scorer at Wake Forest.<br>

It was the third 200-yard game of Barclay's career, leaving him tied with four others for second-best in Atlantic Coast Conference history. He also moved into eighth-place on the conference's all-time rushing list with 3,903 yards.<br>

The Demon Deacons (4-5, 3-3 ACC) won their sixth in a row against the Blue Devils, one week after beating North Carolina State to end a two-game losing skid. Still, they must win their final two to become bowl eligible for the first time in three years, and that includes a home game against No. 6 Miami.<br>

Wake Forest piled up 557 yards of total offense including 419 on the ground in its best offensive performance of the season. In the end, coach Jim Grobe decided to run out the final two minutes with third-string quarterback Allan Holland taking a knee on the last three plays deep in Duke territory.<br>

Not quite the home finale the Blue Devils (1-8, 0-6) hoped for. They remained winless against Division I-A opponents and lost their fourth consecutive game by more than 25 points despite going with three different quarterbacks on the first three series.<br>

Mike Schneider got his first start in about a month and completed his first five passes, then stepped aside for freshmen Zack Asack and Marcus Jones. Combined, they finished 17-for-29 for 153 yards and two interceptions, with Asack's 19-yard TD pass to Eron Riley good for Duke's only score.<br>

But Barclay and the Deacons wouldn't be stopped. Following his big gain on his first touch, the Blue Devils held him in check a bit for the rest of the first half before he got going again in the third quarter.<br>

His record-breaking run came on Wake Forest's second drive of the second half, and he was done for the day after his long touchdown run that made it 34-6. Sam Swank added three field goals for the Deacons.<br>
