Dentist charged with murder in wife's death

<p>A dentist whose estranged wife's death was initially ruled a suicide was formally charged with murder Wednesday.</p><p>A grand jury indicted Dr. Barton Corbin on charges of felony murder, murder and possession of a firearm with intent to commit a crime. Corbin is accused of shooting his wife, Jennifer, who was found dead in their Buford home on Dec. 4.</p><p>Corbin was also recently charged with murder in the death of his former girlfriend. Dorothy "Dolly" Hearn, a fellow dental student, was found shot in the head in her Augusta home 15 years ago, but that death was ruled a suicide until authorities reopened the case after Corbin's wife's death last month. He was charged in that case on Dec. 22.</p><p>Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Debra K. Turner issued a gag order Wednesday in the Jennifer Corbin case. The order prevents lawyers, witnesses and others connected to the investigation from talking to the media about the case. A trial judge could decide to lift the gag order later.</p><p>Turner denied a motion by Corbin's defense team to change the venue of the grand jury considering charges to another county.</p><p>Corbin, who was not in court Wednesday, is being held in a Richmond County jail in the Hearn case. His attorneys have maintained his innocence in both deaths.</p><p>"Dr. Corbin maintains his innocence and will continue to fight these charges," his attorney, Bruce Harvey, said after the indictment was handed down.</p>
