N.C. State women win in OT

BLACKSBURG, VIRGINIA - Marquetta Dickens hit a free throw with 22 seconds left in overtime as N.C. State beat No. 23 Virginia Tech 76-75 on Monday night.<br> <br> Dickens and Kendra Bell led the scoring with 14 points apiece for the Wolfpack (13-4, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) in a game that featured 18 ties and 22 lead changes.<br> <br> Billie McDowell scored 11 points for N.C. State and Ashley Key and Tiffany Stansbury each had 10.<br> <br> Carrie Mason led Virginia Tech (11-4, 1-2) with 14 points, Kirby Copeland scored 13 points and Christie Marrone added 12. and Kerri Gardin scored seven points and had 14 rebounds.<br> <br> The Hokies took the lead 75-71 with a Gardin layup at the 1:44 mark in overtime. McDowell hit a jumper with 1:04 to play and Dickens followed with a layup and was fouled on the play.<br> <br> Virginia Tech led 40-35 at the half but after intermission was held scoreless for more than three minutes as N.C. State reclaimed the lead.<br> <br> N.C. State shot 44 percent and the Hokies 45 percent for the game.
