Ex-employee arrested in shooting death of man's daughter

<p>A former tenant and employee of a man whose daughter was fatally shot through a window while sleeping in her parents' bed was arrested Thursday and charged with murder.</p><p>Jeffery Allen Hampton, 32, was accused of using a large caliber rifle to fire 11 shots into the home of Buddy Parker, striking Tara Nicole Swilley in the head early in the morning Aug. 2.</p><p>Swilley, 26, was sleeping with her husband and their 7-month-old daughter. At least five shots came the bedroom window, but no one else was hurt in the shooting.</p><p>Parker, who owns a carpet retail store, was out of town.</p><p>Family members said the Swilleys were staying at her parents' house because their cable television was not working.</p><p>Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood said the shots were fired from about 150 yards away. From shell casings at the scene, investigators traced the ammunition to an assault rifle purchased by Hampton at a flea market in Florida, Chitwood said.</p><p>Investigators had not determined why Hampton shot at Parker's home, the sheriff said.</p><p>Hampton was arrested at his parents house and charged with murder.</p><p>He had rented an apartment from Parker and done odd jobs for him, according to Greg Harris, Parker's son-in-law.</p><p>"He just did day labor, odd jobs," Harris said.</p><p>He said Parker had not talked to Hampton in four years.</p><p>___</p><p>HASH(0x2866618)</p>
