Wachovia plans move to midtown Atlanta

<p>Wachovia plans to move its regional banking group from downtown Atlanta to midtown once its planned 14-point-three (B) billion acquisition of SouthTrust is complete.</p><p>Charlotte-based Wachovia currently has a large presence in the 191 Peachtree tower.</p><p>Yesterday the bank told employees many of them would move to Atlantic Station in midtown when the deal closes, expected later this year.</p><p>Birmingham-based SouthTrust houses its Georgia operations in about 150,000 square feet of office space in the mixed-use development.</p><p>Wachovia execs say the new tower is more visible and will allow thousands of commuters to see the Wachovia name every day.</p>
